Lose 9.1kg to reach ideal weight
CalcNation's Ideal Weight Calculator India uses four medically validated formulas — Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi — to give you the most accurate ideal weight range for your height, gender, and body frame. Includes India-adjusted body fat reference ranges and a personalised target weight plan.
The Devine formula (1974) is the most widely used in medical and clinical settings. Robinson (1983) and Miller (1983) are modified versions. Hamwi (1964) is the oldest and uses slightly different constants. Taking the average of all four gives the most balanced estimate.
Indians generally have higher body fat at the same BMI compared to Caucasians. For an Indian adult of 170cm height: males — approximately 60–68kg; females — approximately 52–60kg. The recommended BMI range for Indians is 18.5–22.9 (lower than the global 25 cutoff).
No single formula is universally most accurate — each has strengths. The Devine formula is most used clinically for medication dosing. For general wellness, the average of all four formulas provides the best estimate. This calculator uses all four.
Lean body mass (LBM) is your total body weight minus fat mass. It includes muscles, bones, organs, and water. A higher LBM is associated with better metabolic health, stronger bones, and better physical performance.
At a safe rate of 0.5kg per week (500 calorie daily deficit), losing 10kg takes approximately 20 weeks (5 months). Faster loss often results in muscle loss. This calculator shows personalised timelines based on your specific goal.
Body frame size (small, medium, large) is determined by wrist circumference or elbow breadth. A rough guide: for women with height under 157cm, wrist under 14cm = small frame; 14–14.6cm = medium; over 14.6cm = large. For men, use wrist breadth relative to height.
Ideal weight from formulas gives a single number estimate. Healthy weight range considers a ±5kg window around the ideal. Body composition (fat vs muscle) matters more than the number on a scale.
